Natural Allure

Through the lens of one the most influential fashion photographers of the past century, Lillian Bassman, fashion never looked so genuine. Loosing the need to be sensual for a male photographer, models are naturally alluring.

First Timing

(F/W '93 Coco Chanel Chain Tassel Earrings)

Today, 7th September 2009, besides being my first day of shopping in Japan since I got back, it is also the first time ever that I buy a pair of inimitable Coco Chanel vintage earrings. I haven't worn a single pair of earrings for the past 3 year but recently I am not sure why but I decided that it was time to re-connect with the earrings world. What is better than a pair of chunky, golden 80's/90's pair of clip earrings to start up the collection?

The day before

Clips from "The Day Before", documentary about the 48 hours before Proenza Schouler, Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Sonia Rykiel shows, had licked out. Considering how much I enjoyed Lagerfeld Confidential, and Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton documentary, I cannot wait for what the director Loic Prigent of Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton and The Sundance Channel managed to assemble together.

You've got it going on

Hanging out at the dorm tonight, after lighting up some fireworks, we started talking about tv shows. Since Nicole is Australian, I asked her if she knew "The Flight of the Conchords" (I know the protagonists are New Zealanders but close enough) and this is how it began remembering how funny Bret and Jemaine are.

"...I said
Bret you got it going on
not in a gay way, just in a hey mate
just want to say that your looking ok mate
why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy
that he thinks his booty is fly
not all the time obviously
just when he's got a problem with his self esteem
don't let anyone tell you your not humpable
because your bumpable
well I hope this doesn't make you feel uncomfortable
if I say you got a boom ow ow
come on Bret help me out now..."

Wondering...

Blogging from the Apple store in Sakae, downtown area in Nagoya, imagining what life would be like if everybody was wearing pom-poms over their heads...

Today.

Today, I have not done much. I have been unpacking few boxes of the thousands boxes I have left here in Japan when I went home in July. I am not sure why I kept so much stuff, why didn't I start sending it home?.. Wondering.

I have been hanging out at the dorm where I used to live before, it was nice seeing all the people I shared 10 months of my life with, plus I had the chance to meet the newcomers. I helped out with translating for those who are still new and adjusting to living in Japan, moreover I took some students around the tiny campus of Nanzan University.
The day has been really humid, contrarily to Tuesday, when I got here, and the surprising little breeze ruffling the curtains of my new room.

At night, on my way home while riding the subway I felt really calmed and relaxed . The same kind of emotions I tasted in Italy while driving around...oh I miss driving while listening to loud music. It's just so re-energizing.

By the way, Sandro and I while chatting came to a decision, that when we are both famous and rich we are going to take our private jets to meet up somewhere in the world to toast with champagne to our success.

Lunching at Hermés

Back in Japan, Nagoya to be precise. It feels like I am sixteen again, when I was home-staying in Australia for three months, now at twenty-three, I am home-staying in Japan for the same amount of time. Even though, I am seven years older, and I have been to Nagoya so many times, the feelings of being lost, jet-lagged that accompanies the first days of these experiences are still the same.
A part from this sense of total confusion, I have been lunching with my host mother at a cafè nearby where they only use Hermés tableware. I was so jet lagged at that point, I am not sure if I was dreaming or if it was real..

This 1st of September is the beginning of a new phase of my life, which I am going to share on a daily basis in the posts of my blog. I do not have a special person in my life to share my life with anymore but I feel like I have my blog, for now it will do.

Golden Inspiration

Although Bea Arthur has passed away, she continues to inspire Alexander Wang.

Alexander Wang to W Magazine:
"....the bags are named after TV show characters. We have the Brenda and Kelly [90210], the Dorothy shopper [The Golden Girls] and the Trudy [Miami Vice]. They’re all the shows that used to be on TV when I was growing up.

Dorothy Shopper by Alexander Wang
[As I recently posted, suede is taking a all new perspective in my fall/winter wardrobe, this Alexander Wang Grey Suede shopper is so effortlessly chic and clean that I hope it will soon be part of it. ]

When prompted about his television habits, Andre Leon Talley, admitted :"I only watch MSNBC for the news. Keith, Rachel and Chris. And reruns of The Golden Girls. It’s my favorite show. They have a sense of being at home, always wearing different robes and nightgowns. For me it’s one of the greatest shows ever. Helmut Lang loves The Golden Girls too".

Andre Leon Talley, Helmut Lang and Alexander Wang love "The Golden Girls"... my friend Karin always told me that certain sweaters I own are so Golden-Girlesque ... All it is left to do is to wipe the dust off and start watching this inspirational tv-show.

The perfect blank...

“I think the way to think about The Row is that it offers the perfect blank [...]. So many designers are intent on the next great trend that some of the basics are neglected.” Jim Gold, the chief executive of Bergdorf Goodman. Taken from the article "Good Things do Come in Paris" from the New York Times.
